People who are between 18 and 70 years old, weigh more than 50 kilos and are in good health can donate blood. Donating blood is one of the essential activities that citizens can do to promote the operation of the health system and care for patients in hospitals. The Blood and Tissue Bank needs 1,100 donations a day.

Before donating blood, you must complete a questionnaire about your health and lifestyle. An affirmative answer to the questionnaire does not automatically prevent a blood donation. The doctor responsible for the draw is the one who will ultimately decide whether blood can be donated or not.

Tips for after donating blood

• Do not remove the strip until at least 2 hours later.
• Avoid heavy physical exertion, especially with the punctured arm, for 24 hours after the donation.
• Do not drink alcohol or smoke for 2 hours after donating.
• Drink plenty of fluids for 24-48 hours after donation.
• Avoid very hot places. Better ventilated and cool areas
• In the next 6 hours do not stand for long periods. Avoid long queues or standing on crowded public transport.
